The new Jack Russell Terriers or Parson Russell Terrier is a small, agile, brave terrier, who is good at hunting small animals like foxes and raccoons. Like other terriers they may bore underground easily and are capable of inventing their own entertainment. JRTs are a tough little dog who is clean and a convenient size for a companion. They are bold and friendly, athletic and clever. At work, Jack Russell Terriers are a game hunter, tenacious and courageous. At home, they are playful, exuberant and overwhelmingly affectionate. The Jack Russell is an independent and energetic terrier and requires their due portion of attention.
*Note: The AKC name of the Jack Russell Terrier was changed to the Parson Russell Terrier effective April 1, 2003 as requested by the Jack Russell Terrier Association of America, which was changed to the Parson Russell Terrier Association of America. Most owners refer to the shorther, or standard height as the Jack Russell Terrier and the taller height, as the Parson Russell Terrier.

Coat: Smooth, rough or broken. Specific type of coat is difficult to determine early as a small pup, usually able to determine definitively by 3-6 months as a rule of thumb.

With Pets: Will chase anything small that moves. They also may be scrappy with other dogs.

Care and Training: Jack Russell Terriers need minimal brushing of their coats. They are low shedding, and only need bathing when necessary, such as when muddy or dirty. Jack Russell Terriers should receive daily exercise or outdoor activity. Early firm training is necessary to prevent a hyperactive dog.

Health Issues: Some breeders report dislocated kneecaps, eye problems. However, our adult dogs have NO HEALTH PROBLEMS. And we have had NO reports of ANY health issues with any of the pups that have new owners.

History: In 1819, a student by the name of Jack Russell came across a terrier who he developed into the Jack Russell Terrier over the course of sixty years by crossing distinctive strains of fox terriers. Even though there are many variations of the Jack Russell Terrier, the British Kennel Club in 1990 only recognized the Parson Jack Russell Terrier.
